DJ Daniela, is the beauty behind the beats, tom boy turned DJ diva, she has taken the male dominated hip-hop scene by storm with residencies at many premiere parties including San Francisco's Remedy, Sophie's and Soul Café.
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, Daniela has been feeling beats from a young age. Mixing it up on her Hitachi radio cassette recorder - Run DMC, Kraftwerk, Bambata, Egyptian Lover, Michael Jackson, Prince, The Police, David Bowie, The Cure - her ear was open wide and she absorbed it all!
While in college, her love grew even deeper as she got turned onto the DJ scene, attending CAL co-op parties and venturing into SF's club scene. After receiving her degree and two years into a career as a Registered Dietitian, the calling was loud and clear for Daniela to pursue her musical passions. Always up for a challenge, she got her hands on a loner pair of Technics and soon after was holding down the opening slot at the Monday night hot spot, Soul Cafe at Blondie's No Bar & Grill. Always making it about the music, Daniela came into her eclectic style and quickly developed a following. She became a resident DJ at legendary parties such as Vanity, Das Klub , and the Phoenix Monthly's , and has since DJed alongside legends like: Biz Markie, Kid Capri and Bay Area's own Jerry Ross and Mind Motion. "I like to do what's not expected of me. It doesn't intimidate me, being a female behind the decks; I feel it works to my advantage. I bring a fresh energy, vibe and style because I'm not caught up in all the ego related hip-hop drama, I just play from the heart, what I feel and what moves me."
Four years later, Daniela is still taking people on incredible musical journeys with thoughtful mixes and blends of new and classic hip-hop, house, soul, and R&B, always expanding her fan base. "As a DJ you have to take chances, anyone can play what people want and expect that's just too easy. To really move people, you make it about good music, surprise them, and give them what they really need."
In her professional career as a Project Coordinator for a Berkeley-based non-profit, Daniela combined her passion for music with her interest in the community. In 2002-2003, she collaborated with local artists to develop an award winning multi-media kit targeted at urban adolescents called P.H.A.T. (Promoting Healthy Activities Together) that stressed the importance of healthy eating and exercise within a hip-hop cultural context.
With the projects completion, Daniela has taken time off from her community health and fitness efforts to focus on developing her career as a DJ, but looks forward to starting a non-profit geared toward youth development in the future.
